They can get knocked out of focus when shooting and are not generally waterproof beyond a few drops of rain. This torch is properly waterproofed and capable of withstanding immersion in water. The Comet's zoom is achieved through a finely-threaded system with two high quality o-ring seals to block out any water and lock the focus so that taking a shot does not disturb the beam.
